At the core of the Custom Pro is Lew’s ParaMag® ITB (Inertia Transfer Braking) system—easily the most advanced braking system they’ve put into a reel. How the ParaMag® ITB System Works
Lew’s ParaMag® ITB (Inertia Transfer Braking) system is designed to automatically adjust braking force throughout your cast—without constant input from your thumb. Instead of applying a fixed amount of braking like traditional systems, ITB responds dynamically to spool speed.
At the start of the cast, when spool speed is highest, the system increases magnetic resistance to prevent backlash. As the spool slows mid-cast, the braking force backs off, allowing your lure to carry farther and more naturally. The system continuously adjusts in real time, matching braking pressure to exactly what the spool is doing.
The result is a reel that feels almost “automatic.” Once you set your initial tension and brake setting, ITB fine-tunes everything during the cast—giving you better control, fewer overruns, and more consistent distance across changing conditions like wind, lure weight, and casting angles.
